Veterinary Dentistry and Dental Radiography for the Medical Team

VTEC is offering a lecture and wet lab program for hospital team members in concepts and solutions on how to build strong dental teams. The course is designed to teach the fundamentals of dental anatomy and pathology, proper dental cleaning, charting, instrument care, and basic concepts of dental radiology. The goal is to refine the skills of the medical team so they can be able to recognize problems, and discuss them with clients, be ready to perform a thorough dental prophylaxis, dental charting, and obtain diagnostic radiographs. 

The Speaker:   Dr. Curt Coffman- received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from University of Missouri in 1993.  He then practiced small animal medicine in Phoenix Arizona and was part owner of Countryside Animal Hospital in Tempe, AZ.  Dr. Coffman is a Fellow of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry, Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College, and currently practices at Aid Animal Dental Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ.

The course schedule:

• 8:30 - 9:00 am: Registration
• 9:00 - 10:15 am -: Lecture I: Dental Anatomy and Pathology
• 10:15 - 11:00 am: Lecture II: Dental Cleaning, Charting and Instrument Care
• 11:15 - 12:15pm:  Lecture III: Dental Radiology
• 12:15 - 1:15 pm: Lunch
• 1:30 - 4:30 pm: WEB LAB:  The class will be split up into 4 stations and rotate through each station over the course of the lab.   Wet Lab stations will be:

    Station A:   Prophylactic Cleaning and Charting
    Station B:   Prophylactic Cleaning and Charting
    Station C:   Instrumententation, Care, Handling and Sharpening
    Station D:   Dental Radiography

The course will start on Saturday, October 10, 2009 from 8:30am to 4:30pm at Pierce College - Veterinary Technology Program, 9401 Farwest Drive SW, Lakewood, WA USA 98498.  The program has been approved for 6 Continuing Educations with the American Association of Veterinary State boards (RACE).  Seats are extremely limited.
